Rovers reporter Rich Sharpe hands out his player ratings after the 1-0 win over QPR.
Jayson Leutwiler 6
A very quiet afternoon on his first start of the season deputising for David Raya as QPR lacked real ambition.
Elliott Bennett 7
Tried to give Rovers an outlet down the right but may fare better moving further forward with Nyambe back fit.
Darragh Lenihan 8 (MAN OF THE MATCH)
Always in the right place to deal with what little threat QPR posed, though did go close to a second half own goal. Helped keep Rovers on the front foot with some strong interceptions. A welcome return to the side from injury.
Derrick Williams 8
Started in central defence as his versatility continues to be a big plus for Rovers. Positioned himself well to clear several balls in to the box.
Amari’i Bell 5
Too casual in possession and almost cost Rovers at times. Needs more conviction when going forward, but could have won his side a penalty in the first half.
Richie Smallwood 6
Walked the tightrope after an early booking before being sacrificed. Had shown some quality in the ball early on, but faded as it wore on.
Corry Evans 6
Rovers needed a bit more dynamism from the midfielder on his return and a second half booking didn’t help his cause.
Harrison Reed 6
Moved out wide and didn’t look as effective as his showing against West Brom, but wasn’t without his trademark effort. Saw a second half shot blocked.
Bradley Dack 6
Had endured a frustrating day in which his every step was followed. Fouled often, given little space, but slotted home the penalty in cool fashion.
Adam Armstrong 6
Was arguably the most likely player on the pitch to make anything happen, but saw countless crosses in to the box cleared.
Danny Graham 5
Two good chances at either end of the first half but wasn’t his usual effective self as he got little change out of the QPR backline.
Subs
Kasey Palmer (for Smallwood, 62) 6
Picked up good pockets of space without able to make the most of them.
Joe Rothwell (for Graham, 73) 6
Sent Brereton clear late on with an excellent pass, having been given little opportunity to impress before.
Ben Brereton (for Armstrong, 79) 7
Won the penalty which separated the two sides and showed good game management to see Rovers to victory.
Unused subs: Andrew Fisher, Jack Rodwell, Ryan Nyambe, Craig Conway
