Rovers Ladies put another three points on the board with a stunning 6-1 victory over Stoke City Ladies in a fiercely competitive game.
A Saffron Jordan hat-trick, a brace from Natasha Flint and Ellie Stewart’s second half goal ensured Rovers continued their 100 per cent start.
Jordan broke the deadlock inside 30 seconds, taking Jess Holbrook’s cross in her stride and finishing into the bottom corner.
Rovers created a host of early chances. Jordan squared to Makin at the back post but the winger couldn’t find the target, while Jordan, had a shot blocked moments later.
Stewart headed wide from Natasha Fenton’s corner, before the midfielder played a pinpoint pass to Flint, but the ‘keeper was equal to Flint’s low effort.
Jordan turned provider for the second goal, playing an aerial pass to Flint, who expertly controlled the ball before finishing calmly.
Flint then bagged her brace on the half hour mark, picking up Stewart’s long ball and passing it in from close range for 3-0.
Jordan was a constant threat, chesting down Makin’s cross and seeing her shot deflected out for a corner.
Stoke threatened early in the second half as the ball dropped to Ashleigh Hayes in the box, but she fired over.
Rovers came close to scoring a fourth when Jordan rounded the ‘keeper, only to hit the post from a tight angle. But Stewart would not be denied, pouncing on a knock down to volley home.
The home side scored a fifth when Shepherd’s powerful strike was parried into the path of Jordan, who was on hand to finish from close range.
And the forward almost scored her hat trick, ghosting in at the back post to meet Makin’s cross, but couldn’t hit the target with her outstretched boot.
She would net her third with just over five minutes to go, sliding onto a loose ball in the box to score her 18th goal of the season.
Before the whistle there was a consolation for Stoke through substitute Kelsey Richardson who made it 6-1.
Next up is another home game against Nottingham Forest on Sunday, (2pm).
