JOHN Coleman says he will speak to his players about discipline, with Jordan Clark suspended for accumulated bookings for the visit of Portsmouth on Saturday, and three others just one booking away from a ban.
On-loan Middlesbrough goalkeeper Connor Ripley is available after serving a three-match ban for his sending off against Shrewsbury Town earlier this month.
But Accrington Stanley are without winger Clark after he picked up his fifth yellow card of the season in Tuesday night’s defeat at Luton Town.
Fellow wide man Sean McConville is walking a tightrope on four bookings, while midfielder Scott Brown and defender Ross Sykes are also one caution away from a suspension ahead of the amnesty for accumulated bookings on November 30.
“It’s unbelievable that we’ve got two wingers on nine bookings.
“Sometimes you go through little spells where it’s unfortunate, you pick up bookings, and other times you can go forever without.
“Sometimes you have to be mindful of how the game’s going and discipline yourself a bit more and that’s something that we will speak to the players about.
“Jordan Clark’s suspended, which is a very big disappointment for us considering the nature of the challenge he booked on Tuesday for. It was what we think was a foul on him, but I think that was the referee trying to regain control of the game after the incident at half-time.
“I was pleased the way they kept their discipline to be fair, because there’s a lot of goading going on and you can lose your head, but I’m pleased that we didn’t.”
Another plus is that Coleman has no fresh injury worries ahead of the weekend’s clash with League One leaders Portsmouth.
“There’s just a couple of bumps and bruises,” said the Reds boss, who is still without captain Seamus Conneely and young defender Harvey Rodgers.
Conneely has been sidelined with a groin problem which requires a further fortnight’s recovery, while Rodgers is expected to be sidelined for a further month.
