It all looked disconcertingly rosy for a while but there is always a plot twist waiting in this division, writes Simon Smith

Let’s not let a second lapse down in the South West disguise the glory of Saturday just as we can’t let those vital points be the last we take this month.

It really should have been the third win in a row but it looked for all the world as if the Rovers fun bus leaked petrol in the second half until there was not even fumes left by the last few minutes.

There will be days, nights, mornings like these.

I feel glad that the joy we felt came at 2pm Saturday against Leeds United and was toasted gloriously until long after five past.

This new deflated expectation requires a cold, dark night to ponder on important matters.

Not things beyond my control such as formation, selection, media sound-bites and all those other things that the vainglorious think they could do better than the manager. But this...

Was it really 35 years to the month since I watched Simon Barker make his debut at Swansea?

That may be the only time in my life we have won there.

As far as defeats at Swansea City go it can hardly match the promotion-thwarting 1981 game or the sickening 0-3 capitulation in 2012 when relegation looked more a blessed fatal injection than the seven year sentence it has been so far.

And things will swing like a pendulum do once more.

West Bromwich Albion are probably top of the league as you read this, ahead of our trip on Saturday afternoon, and will be feeling the peculiar pressure of success.

Expectation and entitlement oozes from all relegated sides’ fans and the Baggies eagerness to ‘boing-boing’ back can lead to edginess.

We all look to dole out the blame in a blatant attempt to distance ourselves from the pointed finger even though we’re not responsible for a loss so let the boss do that.

There’s plenty to work on before Saturday.

Let’s move on.
