BAXENDEN skipper Mark Rishton is hoping to make a bit of history as the Ribblesdale League reaches an exciting finale.

Rishton's men and Blackburn Northern are locked together at the top of the table on 196 and the league leaders face off at Back Lane tomorrow in a pivotal clash.

But Rishton, who was the youngest member of the last Baxenden team to win the Senior League back in 1993 and the only surviving member of the side, is hoping to get his hands on the trophy once again.

He said: "I remember the last time we won the title and I've been telling the younger players how it feels to win it.

"It was a great experience. I was the youngest of that team all those years ago and we're in a position to do it again.

"No Baxenden player has won it twice so that will be a nice personal goal to achieve.

"But we have to play well because there is nothing to choose between the two sides.

"It's set up perfectly for a big finish. The league table doesn't lie and the top two teams are contesting the league and were in the Ramsbottom Cup final.

"It's a good game for the neutral and the weather is looking good so there should be a big crowd on."

Rishton added: "Whoever wins this game will be in the box seat. There are a couple of games left after Saturday but whoever wins the game between us will be hot favourites.

"There will be a few nerves but the boys are also really excited.

"It's for occasions like this that you play the game."
