ACCRINGTON boss John Coleman has vowed to ring the changes in defence following Stanley's Johnstone's Paint Trophy exit to Oldham Athletic.

He was left fuming with his back four after Stanley were dumped out of the competition's first round on Tuesday night.

The Reds coasted to a two-goal interval lead, but proceeded to throw the tie away as Oldham bagged three second-half goals in the space of 18 minutes.

Coleman is now poised to make changes at the back for Saturday's League Two clash against Grimsby, with skipper Peter Cavanagh hopeful of overcoming a calf problem in time to face the Mariners.

New signing Sean Webb is unavailable, however, as he is away on international duty with Northern Ireland.

"We defended really badly. I won't put up with that and now other people will have to come in," said Coleman.

"We've got a new lad (Webb) coming in next week, and we are hoping Peter Cavanagh will be back.

"It's simply that they are handing the shirts back. And if you hand the shirt back, you might not get it ever again."

Coleman lay the blame on Stanley's Trophy exit firmly at the feet of his rearguard.

He added: "They get well-drilled and they should know what they are doing. It was just bad concentration and bad defending.

"I thought we had tightened up and that we were going the right way, but we can't give goals away like that and expect not to be punished."

Webb is away with Northern Ireland and will hoping to play some part in their Euro 2008 qualifying match against Latvia on Saturday.

He is expected to arrive at Accrington on Monday.
