JOHN Coleman last night blasted his defence after Accrington Stanley crashed out of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy to Oldham following a dramatic turnaround.

The Reds looking to be plain sailing in their first round tie at the Fraser Eagle Stadium after coasting into a two-goal lead through Roscoe Dsane and an Andy Procter penalty.

But Oldham stormed back after half-time with two goals in three minutes from Andy Liddell and Craig Davies, before Matt Wolfenden sealed the Latics winner.

Stanley's back four were at error for Oldham's goals and manager Coleman was far from happy.

"We were absolutely coasting and dominating the game," he said.

"The game was dead and buried, we made enough chances. But we've just gone to sleep for five minutes and been punished.

"I'm bitterly disappointed and the lads will be in for extra training tomorrow.

"I've told them that it's not good enough and that the defending isn't good enough. I would lay the blame, fairely and squarely, on the back five tonight.

"In the second-half, they went totally to sleep. They gifted possession and couldn't clear their lines."

Coleman added: "We missed a chance to make it 3-0. I said to (assistant manager) Jimmy Bell that we would pay for that miss - and sure enough we did.

"The defending for the first two goals just defies belief. The second goal was a comedy of errors.

"That just sums us up and the way our luck has gone this season. That's something we've got to iron out "The only plus part was that we scored two goals."
