ROVERS maintained their fantastic start to the season with a 1-0 win over Manchester City at Ewood Park.

Mark Hughes' men ran riot in the first half and went ahead on 13 minutes through Benni McCarthy.

Rovers lost Robbie Savage after a heavy challenge from Richard Dunne four minutes later and should have gone further ahead as they hit the City bar twice in a matter of seconds as the home side poured on the pressure.

Rovers were reduced when Tugay, who came on to replace Savage, was sent off on 54 minutes for two bookable offences within a three minutes of each other.

But, 10 minutes later, City defender Dunne was also sent off after being shown a second yellow card.

Rovers finished the stronger and deserved their win and move up to seventh in the Premier League.
