RISHTON are within touching distance of their first Lancashire League title in just over a decade after yesterday's programme fell foul of the weather.

The Blackburn Road side now need just four points from their remaining two games next weekend to be crowned champions.

An inspired Gareth Wyse helped Rishton to the brink of glory as they hammered Colne by 105 runs.

The seamer took 5-46, which included the wicket of Greg Mail. And pro Saeed Anwar Jnr, who top-scored with 66 in his side's total of 183, took 4-26 as they swept Colne aside.

Rawtenstall are the only other side that could possibly catch the leaders and will hope Rishton slip up against Lowerhouse on Saturday so they can have their chance of taking the title as they face Rishton the following day.

And they kept their hopes alive as they beat Nelson at Seedhill.

Mike Bradley's side collapsed to 158-9 after a promising start with Sanjay Bangar ripping out the heart out of the Nelson batting with 4-56.

And Andrew Payne hit an unbeaten 87 to see Rawtenstall home to a six-wicket win.

The win relegated Nelson to the bottom of the table as Accrington scored a victory over last season's champions Burnley to move up a place.

Accrington's paid man Nishit Shetty hit 60 in his side's total of 186-6 and skipper David Ormerod did his bit with the ball taking 5-49 to see his side home by 67 runs.

At Lanehead, Bacup beat Church by one run in the tightest finish of the day.

Andrew Bentley took 6-82 and pro Ruvin Pieris 3-40 as Bacup were dismissed for just 130.

But Bacup's paid man Chris Harris took a season's best 7-55 to see his side to a narrow win.

Worsley Cup winners East Lancs beat Haslingden by four wickets thanks to an unbeaten 72 by pro Shanan Stewart.

Phil Mooney took 6-37 as Haslingden made 180-9.

But Stewart played a steady knock to see his side home.

Ramsbottom hammered Todmordean by 126 runs after shooting the Centre Vale side out for just 46 after they had made 172-8. David Bell made 66 and Sunil Joshi and Mick Haslam both claimed five-wicket hauls for the visitors.

Lowerhouse were also on the wrong end of a drubbing as they were beaten by 93 runs by Enfield.
