CLITHEROE made hard work of this FA Cup game against their NWCFL opponents and only an improved second half performance saw them through to the next round.
St Helens took the lead from a penalty after 42 minutes.
But the Blues equalised almost straight away through Joel Byrom.
A few chances went agonisingly wide before Joel Byrom outpaced the defence and finished with a low drive.
And they increased their lead when a move down the left finished with a drive across the box to the unmarked Peter Smith and he fired the ball home.
There was just time for St Helens to grab a late second goal.
