ROSSENDALE United chairman Steve Hobson admitted the whole club was left "shell-shocked" by their exit in the Preliminary Round of the FA Cup.

The Stags were forced to play most of the match with 10 men after Tom Clarkson was sent off for violent conduct.

But even when they were reduced even further with the dismissal of Kyle Ingham in the second period for handling the ball on the line, it still looked as though the homes side could muster up a draw at the very least.

Sadly for United though, a second penalty of the afternoon in the last seven minutes saw Town through.

Hobson said: "We were really disappointed that we didn't perform the way we can.

"I'm so sick because an FA Cup run would really have helped the club.

"But I suppose if we're going to do anything here we'll do it the hard way."

They certainly didn't help themselves in this match and were a man down after 25 minutes.

Clarkson and a Town player squared up after a challenge and the United man appeared to nudge his head forward under provacation.

But while he saw red, the referee chose to brandish a yellow to the other protagonist.

Ingham saw red when Town broke on the counter attack and he prevented the ball crossing the line.

And while he was making his way back to the dressing room, Lynham stepped up for the visitors and put them ahead.

Worse was to follow for the home side when central defender Kristain Liptrott was harshly judged to have handled the ball, when it looked as if it was a clear instance of ball to hand.

That didn't bother Gallagher though and he slotted home the spot kick to put the tie beyond doubt.

Hobson added: "I've no qualms whatsoever about our player (Clarkson) getting sent off, you can't butt somebody.

"However, I was very surprised that their player only received a yellow card.

"And for their second penalty, I think everyone thought that was harsh."
