BLACKBURN motorsport champion Rossi Worswick endured a second successive race meeting of mixed fortunes in rounds nine and 10 of the Formula Renault BARC Championship.

The 18-year-old won round nine on Sunday, but was knocked out of contention on the last lap of round 10 at Kent's Brands Hatch Indy circuit the following day.

However, despite failing to finish round 10, the youngster has climbed one place to fourth in the drivers standings.

Worswick qualified on the second row for each race, both of which were interrupted by red flags to remove cars from a dangerous position.

Round nine saw the teenager move up to second on the opening lap as pole-sitter Hywel Lloyd spun on the warm-up lap. After the red flag, Worswick was on the front row for the re-start and made another electric getaway to take the lead into the first corner. Comfortably lapping faster than second-placed Dean Stoneman, the championship leader, Worswick was never troubled as he won by almost four seconds.

Round 10 was following a similar pattern, although this time Worswick was on course for second place as Lloyd took the lead from second on the grid. Two red flags disrupted the race, which was reduced to just eight laps of the 1.2-mile circuit for the second re-start.

With limited time to overtake and the Kent circuit notoriously prohibitive to overtaking in cars with sophisticated F1-style aerodynamics, Worswick waited until the final lap before attempting to out-drag Lloyd to the line.

But as he moved wide to get better momentum, David McDonald went to the inside with almost inevitable contact. McDonald was later penalised by the Clerk of the Course.

A disappointed Worswick said: "Something always seems to have happened to me in one of the races on each weekend so far this season.

"I was looking forward to another podium and to have it taken away in that manner is disappointing because it would have put me clear in third overall."
