GOALS from strikers Andy Gray, Robbie Blake and Ade Akinbiyi were enough to send the Clarets through to the third round of the Carling Cup.

But they were made to fight for their win at Turf Moor tonight against a plucky Oldham side.

It took until the 59th minute for the Clarets to break down their League One opponents after a dominant first half.

Gray lobbed a shot into the bottom corner of the net from 12 yards out to give the home side the advantage.

And Blake made sure of the win with 15 minutes to go, drilling a left foot shot into the bottom corner of the net after being set up by substitute Alan Mahon.

Oldham had chances to score through Matthew Wolfenden, but Brian Jensen was in inspired form to deny him.

Towards the end the visitors continued to press, but the Clarets defence stood firm.

And substitute Akinbiyi, who replaced Blake, put the seal on an impressive evening's work from Steve Cotterill's side when he netted in injury time, burying Wade Elliott's right wing cross.
