BURNLEY have missed out on one of their transfer targets just days before the window closes at midnight on Friday.

Manager Steve Cotterill was keen to keep the identity of the player under wraps, but admitted he was disappointed not to make him his seventh signing since the end of last season.

"I'm always looking to bring a few in. I was a little bit disappointed on Friday night when I found out somebody I'd been looking for and spent a bit of time with trying to get him doesn't want to come," Clarets boss Cotterill said.

"I think the player should remain nameless, but if somebody pops up and goes to another club before the deadline in perhaps a position everyone knows we'd have wanted you might be able to put two and two together, but I think probably it's best kept to ourselves really."
