BURNLEY have launched a bid to make West Bromwich Albion duo Craig Dawson and Jay Rodriguez their first signings of the summer.
The Clarets have made a £25m double bid for the pair, but it's set to be rejected by the Baggies.
But the Lancashire Telegraph understands both Dawson and Rodriguez are keen to discuss the possibility of a move to Turf Moor and the Clarets could yet return with a second bid for either or both.
Both players are high on Sean Dyche's shopping list this summer as the Clarets boss looks to strengthen his squad ahead of assaults at home and in Europe next season.
But it will take an increased offer to land the duo, with West Brom thought to value Dawson at around £12m and Rodriguez at £20m.
Defensive reinforcements are required for Dyche, with Burnley getting by with just three central defenders last term in Ben Mee, James Tarkowski and Kevin Long.
The experienced Dawson would fit the bill in that regard. The 28-year-old, who is from the North West originally, can also play right-back, but would prefer a longer-term role in the centre of defence.
There is plenty of competition to sign Rodriguez, who struck 11 goals last season despite Albion dropping to the Championship.
But while the likes of Bournemouth, Crystal Palace and West Ham could yet join the race for the Clarets Academy graduate, it is believed he wants to return to his hometown club.
The Clarets looked at a deal to sign Rodriguez from Southampton last summer, but they were unable to match his £65,000-a-week wages and the striker eventually moved to the Hawthorns for £12m.
He still has three years remaining on the deal he signed a year ago but Albion's players are thought to have had pay cuts since relegation from the Premier League, which would give Burnley a better chance of matching Rodriguez's pay packet this summer.
The move could be further complicated by the future of Rodriguez's strike partner at Albion, Salomon Rondon. The Venezuelan has a £16.5m release clause in his contract and has been linked with West Ham and Newcastle.
The Baggies would be reluctant to lose their two first choice strikers without at least getting a replacement in first, which could force the Clarets to wait on a deal for Rodriguez.
