BURNLEY goalkeeper Nick Pope made his England debut as the Three Lions defeated Costa Rica 2-0 in their final World Cup warm-up game.
The Clarets stopper, who only made his Premier League debut in September, replaced Jack Butland with 25 minutes remaining.
It caps a remarkable rise for the 26-year-old who has enjoyed a stellar season with Burnley.
Since replacing the injured Tom Heaton against Crystal Palace, Pope has impressed and kept the Turf captain out of the side when Heaton returned to full fitness for the final weeks of the campaign.
Pope kept 11 top flight clean sheets and his form earned him an international call up for two England friendlies in March.
He didn't get on the pitch against either Italy or Holland but impressed Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate enough to secure a place in the World Cup squad, edging out teammate Heaton - who is on the standby list - and Joe Hart.
Pope is set to travel to Russia as third choice but he will travel with a taste of international football under his belt following his outing at Elland Road on Thursday night.
He was given precious little to do with England in complete control against a Costa Rica side who have also reached the World Cup.
Pope was composed with his kicking and made a smart, if routine, save at his near post from Ronald Matarrita in the final minutes.
Marcus Rashford had given England an early lead with a dipping strike and substitute Danny Welbeck added a second with a diving header.
England play their opening World Cup campaign against Tunisia on Monday week.
