Rovers Ladies completed an historic treble after lifting the league title, their third piece of silverware in as many weeks.
Gemma Donnelly’s side retained the FA Women’s Northern Premier League after a 4-1 win at Nottingham Forest with three still games to play.
That comes after winning the Lancashire County Cup and Women’s Premier League Cup in another incredible season.
Defeat for Middlesbrough at Leicester meant three points would be enough for Rovers, and they did so courtesy of an excellent second half showing.
They went a whole season undefeated last year before losing the promotion play-off to Tottenham, but have been playing catch up this time around due to a host of postponements.
And despite losing twice this season in the league, Donnelly said: “It’s probably made it that little bit sweeter that we’ve had to work incredibly hard to win the league.
“This season has been tough with coming back after last season, trying to galvanise the team, postponements and breaks in play, and the backlog of fixtures.
“I can’t begin to say how tough this season has been emotionally, mentally, but the girls keep on surprising.
“We’ve had two weeks of lifting the league cup, the county cup and now the league. Who would have thought that we could have done it again? All credit has to go to the team, they are such a phenomenal force and I am so thrilled for them.”
Rovers will now face Charlton in the play-off final to see who wins promotion.
They were behind against Forest after 11 minutes and trailed 1-0 at the break.
Lakan Makin levelled five minutes after the re-start before Jess Holbrook handed Rovers the lead with 71 minutes on the watch. Natasha Flint added a third with seven minutes to play before a late own goal.
Donnelly added: “We appear to have adopted a mentality of being a second half team but we can’t afford to do that, particularly now we’re in the play-offs.
“We can’t afford to concede early goals and have to scrap our way back into the game. They had a ticking off at half-time because we had spoken about it at length before the game but they reacted and had a much better second half and ran out deserved winners.”
Rovers are in action tonight against Stoke at Ewood (7.45pm). Tickets are £5 for adults, £3 for kids and free to season ticket holders.
