Paul Downing says the Rovers players are relishing the prospect of playing in front of a packed Ewood Park.

Fans have been snapping up tickets for tomorrow’s season finale against Oxford with a crowd of more than 20,000 expected.

Tony Mowbray’s men still have an outside chance of lifting the League One title, knowing a win over Oxford and a Doncaster victory over Wigan would see them take top spot.

But with the club set to celebrate the club’s promotion back to the Championship, as well as the success of the Under-23s and Ladies sides, Downing said: “We’re really looking forward to it.

“Judging by the number of tickets we’ve sold it should be a big crowd and a great atmosphere and hopefully we can do the business in the 90 minutes and get the job done.

“We’ll look to finish the season strongly and then who knows with Wigan at Doncaster?

“The main job for us is done, but we want to finish on a high and then go and enjoy our summer, rest up and come back ready for next year.”

Rovers have been backed by excellent support throughout the season and, speaking at a sold-out disabled supporters club end of season party, the defender added: “It’s great that we can interact with the fans and give something back to them.

“We appreciate their efforts this season, we couldn’t have done it without them so it’s been a good effort all round.”
