Tony Mowbray says the Rovers players want to sign off League One life in style - and isn’t giving up hope of lifting the title.

Rovers host Oxford United tomorrow with more than 25,000 fans expected inside Ewood Park.

Nothing less than a win is needed if they are to stand a chance of claiming top spot. Three points coupled with a defeat for Wigan at Doncaster would mean Rovers would be champions.

But wherever they finish the season, Mowbray wants to put on a show for the packed house.

He said: “We know that if we’re at our best it doesn’t matter who we play in this division, we will give them a tough game.

“I have to make sure the players are up for this encounter, up for the challenge of the game and I’m sure Oxford will be because the atmosphere will drive a performance from the opposition as well.

“We expect a tough game, we try and beat teams at their very maximum performance level and I’m sure that’s what Oxford will give at the weekend.

“The players are desperate to finish in style and then enjoy the occasion.

“Hopefully after the game we can spend some time together and celebrate the successes of the season.”

Mowbray says Rovers’ main aim this term was promotion back to the Championship but he admits claiming the title would be the cherry on the cake.

The Ewood chief added: “In an ideal world we win the game and good news filters through from Doncaster.

“As we saw from the other night Doncaster are more than capable of giving Wigan a really tough game so let’s wait and see.

“The main aim, as I’ve said for the last week-and-a-half, was to get out of this division and that’s been achieved.

“The competition has been tough, we have to mention Shrewsbury Town for their amazing season and how well they have done for the size of club they are.

“Wigan would have expected to be up at this end of the table, they have some good players and a really good manager.

“Let’s see who comes out on top. If we win that’s great, if not we will take promotion.

“We’ll all be looking at the Championship fixtures and looking forward to the next challenge.”

Rovers host an Oxford side who have won three of their last four matches, with Karl Robinson’s side sitting in 15th place on 56 points.

Of the visitors, the Mowbray added: “Karl is a very experienced manager of course, he’s been around a long time and knows how to put a team together.

“His teams will pass the ball about, play entertaining football and will try and spoil the party.”
