Tony Mowbray says he’s planning for the long-term at Rovers and is anticipating positive talks with owners Venky’s this summer.

Mowbray’s name has been linked with the vacant posts at Ipswich Town and West Bromwich Albion, having been a player at the former and managed the latter during his career.

But the Ewood chief signed a new two-year deal, with the option for a further 12 months, last summer after talks with the Rao family following relegation.

And he says should the talk with the owners go as he expects this time around, then he envisages an exciting summer of preparing for life back in the Championship with Rovers.

He told the Lancashire Telegraph: “I’m pretty sure that I will go to India and have similar conversations to the ones we had last year, very supportive and humble people who will want to support the football club and the team.

“As long as I come away feeling that we have half a chance of doing okay next year and being competitive then I think it’s a great club.

“The people who work here work really hard and the supporters have had it really tough but I can feel them coming back and feel they can see the shoots of growth and why you wouldn’t you want to be at the start of that?

“I’m not envisaging anything other than an enjoyable summer, working hard to build a team that excites me going in to pre-season and I hope pre-season is going to be enjoyable.

“We will go away and prepare the team, we have some good games arranged and I’m looking forward to the fixtures coming out and getting on with it.”

Mowbray achieved promotion back to the Championship at the first time of asking in his first full season in charge of Rovers after replacing Owen Coyle in February 2017.

Rovers will sign off life in League One when they host Oxford United tomorrow (5.30pm) with a crowd of over 25,000 expected.

Tickets have been reduced to £10 for adults and will remain at that price until 3pm on matchday.

The players will join fans for a celebration on Bank Holiday Monday in the town centre, and Mowbray is anticipating an excellent send off at Ewood Park.

He added: “We hope it’s a good day, the sun is shining and the team perform on the pitch, score a few goals and we win the game.

“The Under-23s will be celebrated after winning their league, the Ladies team have done particularly and all indicatively of the club hopefully moving forward and in the right direction.

“Some people will be coming along for the first time in a while, which is suggested by the numbers, hopefully they can get the bug again and want to come back and watch a team that’s fighting for every ball and to win the game and rekindles that energy that you need to be successful which is driven from the terraces and the seats in the stands.”

Meanwhile, Mowbray has missed out on the League One manager of the month award for April which was won by Wigan boss Paul Cook.
