It was great to see the scenes at Doncaster after Rovers won promotion last week, writes Simon Garner.

That was job done and I am glad they did it with still two games to spare.

I said last week that getting it done at the first opportunity was important. You wouldn’t have wanted to go to Charlton, who are on a bit of a roll under Lee Bowyer needing to get a win.

Everyone was expecting Rovers to be up there this season but it is still an achievement to be celebrated.

No matter what league you’re in getting promotion is a big thing and they have to be proud of it.

They have done it with style and there was real pressure on them but they have handled it well and you have to give a lot of credit to the manager for that.

The way Tony Mowbray has handled the team and the run they went on in the second half of the season, I didn’t expect that.

The Championship, though, is a tough division, the hardest league there is I would say.

Every team wants to get out of it and there are a lot of teams that spend a lot of money just for the chance to get in the Premier League and earning the big money.

I would guess that Tony is already thinking about that. I think he will want to get out to India and speak to the owners as quickly as he can, see what money there is to spend and get his business done as quick as he can because the longer you leave it the price can go up.

It will be interesting to see what happens when he goes out there and what the owners say to him. Hopefully they say the right things to him.

It’s very encouraging that they are letting him go out there and meeting him face to face. That hasn’t happened much in the last two or three years.

On the pitch Mowbray rested a number of players who had been playing through the pain barrier against Charlton and that’s understandable. It’s been a long hard season for a lot of the players.

He has a great squad, don’t get me wrong, but his main players have had a hard season with a lot of pressure and they have done brilliantly.

Tony wouldn’t want any of his players going in to, or coming back from, pre-season with injuries.

If you have had an injury and played through it then you need to get it fully recovered and ready for the next season.

The players will have wanted to play but with the way the game is now you have to be sensible.

It’s so fast and frantic that you have to be fully fit.

I think the title is inconsequential. They will want to win the title and it’s still on but the main thing was to get promotion from and I think they must be proud of that.

Hopefully they can finish the season with a win over Oxford and maybe Wigan will slip up at Doncaster.

I think it would be brilliant if Rovers can get more than 20,000 for Saturday’s final game.

You have to get all the fans in that you can and put on a good show because you want them to come back next season.
