Rovers reporter Rich Sharpe hands out his player ratings after the 1-0 defeat to Charlton Athletic.

Jayson Leutwiler 6

Unfortunate to be beaten in the way he was. Decent stop from Forster-Caskey in the second half with his one effort to save of the match.

Paul Caddis 5

Committed fouls in dangerous areas, including one in the lead up to the Charlton goal. Got forward to decent effect, but didn’t look fully fit before being substituted.

Darragh Lenihan 6

Tried to aid the Rovers attack from his right centre back role and was strong defensively. Booked for a late tackle on Marshall.

Paul Downing 6

Bullied by the powerful figure Magennis to begin with and grew in to the game. As steady a performance as usual.

Charlie Mulgrew 6

Set pieces not up to his usual high standards but sold enough in his defensive work.

Amari’i Bell 6

Gave Rovers a good outlet down the left but sadly his final ball was all too inconsistent as he wasted some good crossing opportunities.

Richie Smallwood 7 (MAN OF THE MATCH)

One who never stopped from minute one and pressed better than any Rovers player. Was in the thick of the action in the second half and was unlucky with a left-foot effort in to the second half which was cleared away by Marshall.

Corry Evans 6

Was crowded out in a congested central area in the first half but used the ball better after the break.

Jack Payne 5

Struggled to get in to the game and showed his frustration with a first-half booking. Did go close at the start of the second half, only to be denied by a neat Amos save.

Adam Armstrong 6

Brighter after the break and laid on chances for both Graham and Payne. Sadly wasn’t given much fo a sniff in front of goal.

Dominic Samuel 7

Unfortunate to be denied by the bar and a fine Amos save after the break in an improved second half showing.

Subs

Danny Graham (for Payne, 63) 6

Gave Rovers an outlet in attack and saw a shot well blocked late on.

Got in among the Charlton midfield with an energetic display after being brought on.

Peter Whittingham (for Evans, 76) 5

Dragged a shot disappointingly wide from a promising position in the final five minutes.
