GOALS from Michael Duff and Andy Gray got Burnley's 2007/08 Championship campaign off to a winning start against promotion favourites West Bromwich Albion.
The Baggies took the lead against the run of play in the first half after breaking quickly from a corner.
But the Clarets showed impressive powers of recovery to grab all three points after the break.
Steve Cotterill's men made the brighter start, with returning striker Robbie Blake providing a threat from set pieces. Chris McCann, Duff and Wayne Thomas went close with headers from three of his deliveries from the right.
But when a left wing corner was cleared, Zoltan Gera slipped the ball through for the onrushing Kevin Phillips to finish well.
Burnley were forced into a change just after the half-hour with Kyle Lafferty coming on for the injured Steven Caldwell, forcing a reshuffle to the original line-up.
But the change failed to disrupt them and the Clarets made the perfect start to the second half as Duff met Blake's corner with a thumping header at the far post to equalise.
Substitute Ade Akinbiyi had an immediate impact after his 74th minute introduction, winning a penalty five minutes later, and Gray converted confidently to clinch an opening day win.
