DANNY Graham has found a desire and workrate to play his part in Rovers’ promotion push, according to boss Tony Mowbray.

Graham has scored eight times in his last eight outings at Ewood Park to take his tally to 12 for the season in all competitions.

More impressive for the 32-year-old has been his run of eight consecutive starts having previously not managed more than two since Mowbray took charge.

But after being dropped following back-to-back defeats to start the season, he's become a key man for the Rovers boss.

And Mowbray said: “You want the chances to fall to Danny because you know it’s one touch and it’s in the back of the net.

“What I would say about Danny is that he’s working extremely hard.

“He’s in the autumn of his career but he’s found a workrate and desire to want to help this club get promotion and for him to score some goals along the way.

“When he looks at our goalscoring charts he will see some young bucks up there but I’m sure knowing Danny Graham he will want to finish top of the scoring charts if he can this year.”

Mowbray says Graham will continue to be a big part for this Rovers side in their bid for promotion.

But the boss hasn’t ruled out continuing to rotate his options in attack and revealed he had thought about leaving him out for the midweek win over the Saddlers in which he scored twice, and claimed an assist.

“He wasn’t going to play but then when I started watching Walsall I felt as though he could give their right-sided centre half some physical problems so we decided to play him.

“I thought three games in a week would be a big ask for him so we’d rest him (for Walsall) and keep him fresh for Saturday.

“Danny knows the way I work. I analyse the opposition and if I think it’s a game for speed and power in behind then I’d leave on the bench.

“He’s a type of striker and his goals return over the last dozen games has been amazing and I hope he’s enjoying his football and we can continue to utilise him.

“Danny knows how I am. If I think a team is going to press us and play high then with total respect to him he’s not going to run away from defenders and score goals, he needs the ball working in to the final third and put in the box and then he can score.

“He’s got a great understanding with Bradley (Dack), he was moaning saying can he set him up for a goal rather than him always setting Bradley up for goals.”
