AFTER the frustration of Saturday, Rovers certainly didn’t want a nervy start against Walsall on Tuesday night and the pressing from the first whistle bore fruit, writes Simon Smith.

Once Danny Graham bagged his second it did look like it was a matter of how many and, despite some laissez-faire defending, even after Walsall’s goal it was hardly ever a matter of ‘if’ rather one of ‘when.’

The hunger and pace of the front four dizzied their opponents and got Rovers on the front foot throughout. If not for the heroics of keeper Lee Roberts, whose career story is interesting, who knows how many Rovers would have netted?

But the fact remains, Blackburn Rovers have not lost a league game for a staggering 109 days, 2,618 hours, 156,960 minutes, 9,417,600 seconds and counting.

The transfer window looks set to close with Tony Mowbray’s squad trim and looking strong in all senses of the word.

I daresay Ben Gladwin would also have been offered a loan move if fit but as it stands we should be very happy.

Graham has seized his chance as the front man of this band, showing that he has the desire, ability and sharpness to compensate for the pacy assets the other strikers have over him.

Many strikers on a hat-trick would turn into moody chops on being subbed but Graham saw the bigger picture; rest those legs for Saturday. Goals breed goals and that early finish was borne of sheer confidence.

Plymouth away is a game that Rovers will be wary of. There should still be goals in the bank after Tuesday but it may be a game where a win is ground out.

Yes, there will be flamboyance, one-touch magic in the last third and hopefully another quickfire start, however there is no shame in hitting those far corners if protecting a lead.

We know Rovers can outplay sides, now they need to get back to clean sheets.
