ROVERS have announced that they have reached an agreement with young midfielder Connor Thomson to cancel his contract.

The youngster, who turns 22 next month, has seen his deal ended by mutual consent 18 months early.

A club statement read: "Rovers have reached a mutual agreement with Connor Thomson to terminate the player’s contract.

"The move enables Connor, who joined Rovers from Carlisle United in December 2014, to pursue his career at another club.

"Rovers would like to wish Connor well in the future."

The versatile wide player joined Rovers from Carlisle United in December 2014 following a successful trial.

Thomson was an unused substitute for the Checkatrade Trophy defeat to Bury in October and had started against Fleetwood Town in the competition in 2016/17 when Rovers entered as an Under-23s side.

But he failed to make a single first-team appearance.

Having played 23 times for the development squad, he ended last season gaining valuable first team experience on loan with National League side Barrow.

However, he has struggled to make an impact for Damien Johnson’s side this time around having mainly been used from the bench in his seven Premier League 2 Division Two outings.

He had signed a new deal in January 2017 which would have taken him through to the summer of 2019, but that has now been cut short.
