CHARLIE Mulgrew could be back from injury in just 10 days after scans revealed no extensive damage to his ankle which forced him off in Saturday’s draw with Northampton Town.

The Rovers captain was taken off just 15 minutes in the draw with the Cobblers after sustaining damage to his ankle.

He underwent a scan on Monday afternoon but the injury isn’t likely to sideline him for too long, with the news coming as a big boost to boss Tony Mowbray.

Mowbray praised Derrick Williams who has filled in for Mulgrew in central defence, as well as Amari’i Bell who has made a strong start to his Rovers career at left-back.

“He's about 10 days away from coming back,” Mowbray told the Lancashire Telegraph.

“Charlie is thinking he's playing a week Saturday so let's wait and see.

“He'll have his boots back on in the next week or so and will get on the grass and then we’ll see whether his ankle is sore or we can strap it up and get on with it.

“He’s desperate to play, the scans were pretty good and there’s not huge damage.

“We’ll wait and see.

“I would have to say that Derrick has done fantastically well in that position, showed great composure and awareness and Amari’i has slipped in at left-back as if he’s been playing here all his life.

“We’re okay at the moment but as soon as Charlie is fit obviously he’s a big player for us.”
