WALSALL boss Jon Whitney says his side will arrive at Ewood Park believing they can be the team to end Rovers’ long unbeaten run.

Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Northampton Town may have been a frustrating one for boss Tony Mowbray and his players but it did extend their run without defeat to 17 league games.

The Saddlers boss was at the game with his side having been afforded the weekend off and has taken in a number of Rovers games of late.

Whitney’s side are currently 18th in the table but Whitney is relishing the trip to East Lancashire and believes they can return to the Midlands with a positive result.

“They are a strong team. But they are beatable, like every team in League One,” he told the Express & Star.

“We are looking forward it because it’s a fantastic place to go to.

“It’s one of those stadiums that – ever since I was a kid – I have looked at.

“They are a big club that has played at the highest level. But this is a great opportunity for our players.

“It’s 23 years since they won the Premier League but it feels like yesterday.

“Tony (Mowbray) wants to push them back up into the Championship. That is where they think they should be.

“But we are a threat. At Charlton we played some really good football.

“We keep ruing missed chances but we have worked hard over the past week to try and correct that.”
