RYAN Nyambe says extra work on the training ground as well as the guidance of the Rovers coaching staff has helped him accelerate his development.

Nyambe has enjoyed a strong start to 2018 with a string of impressive performances at right-back having cemented his place as part of a consistent Rovers defence.

His attacking play has caught the eye in recent weeks, with the 20-year-old revealing first-team coach David Lowe, alongside manager Tony Mowbray, have helped him with that side of his game.

With Nyambe often finding himself operating in positions in front of the dugout, he admits Mowbray is a constant voice in his ear, but that’s something he appreciates.

“Every day, every game I can hear him shouting at me,” Nyambe said. “I’m still young, with a lot to learn and have to keep working hard.

“Him shouting at you is not a bad thing, it’s good because he’s trying to help you become a better player.

“I’ve been staying out after training and getting help from David Lowe and the gaffer, of course, and they are helping me with my play.

“They’re helping me get forward more and I’ve got to do that.”

Nyambe turned 20 in December but has racked up 52 career appearances, including 24 already this season.

Since returning from injury in the middle of October but has missed just one league game since, and being part of an experienced dressing room, and having the support of the Rovers fans, he says he is enjoying his football.

“I’m feeling confident and that’s down to the lads helping me and the fans as well,” the Academy graduate added.

“When I come on to the pitch and the fans are roaring it does give me that confidence to kick on.

“The confidence in the dressing room is helping me develop, as is the run of games that I’m getting.

“Playing alongside the likes of Bradley Dack, Charlie Mulgrew, Elliott Bennett, all of the lads is really helping me.”

Rovers are currently on a 16 game unbeaten run in the league which has seen them move second in the table.

They will look to close the gap to leaders Wigan to two points this weekend, with the Latics without a game due to their FA Cup involvement.

Rovers host Northampton on Saturday before being back at Ewood Park three days later to face Walsall as one of their games in hand on the sides around them.

So entering a crucial period, Nyambe is keen to see the run keep going.

He said: “Back-to-back home games will give us the confidence we need to kick on because we have that home support.

“The Shrewsbury game was a big game for us, we needed the points and it was a massive win for us.

“Fleetwood was a very big win, you could see that from the end and the celebrations that were going on and the atmosphere of the fans the whole game.

“We want to carry on with the winning run we’re on and come the end of the season we want to get promoted in those automatic spots.

“The games come fast, week in week out we have to do what we have to do, stay positive and stay focussed.”
