JACK Payne insists he is relaxed about his future and is focused on what promises to be ‘an exciting’ end to the season.

Payne was recalled by parent club Huddersfield Town from his time with Oxford United before making the move to Ewood Park last week.

He made his Rovers debut in the victory at Fleetwood, setting up Richie Smallwood for the winner with his 10th assist of the campaign.

Boss Tony Mowbray has said that the loan deals Rovers have done this season are not necessarily just short-term, with the possibility of making those permanent, as he has done with defender Paul Downing.

But for now 23-year-old isn’t thinking too far ahead and admits there are a lot of things to factor in.

He said: “Huddersfield said it was a good idea for me to come here.

“They said for me it was a good opportunity for me and I agreed so from that point of view it was quite straightforward.

“For me I’m going to take it day by day, month by month.

“I was sent out to get games and I have done that so far, I’ve got games and have been doing well.

“We will have to see what happens next year. If they do stay in the Premier League then obviously anyone would love a crack at it.

“I speak to the manager, I speak to the club and they’re checking on my progress which is nice to see and we’ll see what the future holds.”

One of Payne’s seven goals in an Oxford shirt came in a 4-2 defeat to Rovers in November, believing the display of Mowbray’s men in an opening half an hour in which they led 3-0 was the best he had seen from a side this season.

He managed 34 games for the Us, scoring seven times, but he’s looking to build on that having made the switch to East Lancashire.

He added: “It’s been a good start to the season.

“I’ve put in some good performances and there have been some good team performances but unfortunately we weren’t consistent enough so were a bit lower down the league than we would have hoped.

“But on a personal note I have enjoyed the season so far.”

Payne will be eyeing a third promotion of his career with Rovers, having helped Southend make the step up from League Two in 2014/15 and Huddersfield from the Championship last term.

He played 28 times for the Terriers in 2016/17 having made the switch from Roots Hall and admits it was a great team to be a part of.

But he anticipates an equally exciting end to this season, with Rovers second in the table with 19 games to go.

“It was a good set-up, the manager had the team playing some really good football,” Payne said.

“It was great to be part of when I did play, it suited me perfectly and I really enjoyed it.

“It will be a massive second half of the season and hopefully we can get in the top two. It will be exciting to be a part of, I was in one last year which was a great feeling and I’m looking to replicate that.”
