I ECHO Ian Holloway’s comments that it is time for video technology to be introduced in the Championship.
There is a lot at stake in the Championship, particularly money wise, and I think it’s important that they do bring it in.
But if they are going to do it, then have got to do it properly, introducing the same technology that they have in the Premier League.
I don’t know how much it would cost to put in, and you can still get instances like on Saturday when Bournemouth scored despite the ball going out of play beforehand, but the goal-line technology does work.
There were worries that when it was brought in it would take too long for decisions to be made, but it’s seconds at most, and you get the right decision.
Had the QPR ‘goal’ been awarded it would have undoubtedly changed the game.
Goals change game, and the first goal in the Championship is always very important.
I think for Blackburn it would have put them under great pressure, the fans might well have turned on the team, so it was a big call.
But Rovers haven’t had a lot of luck so far this season and you need that in football. You just hope that was the piece of luck they needed to turn things around.
When you’re down at the bottom and you need to win games, you need that bit of luck. I hope they can now kick-on from here.
Another clean sheet was encouraging, because I have said before that they have the strikers to score the goals.
Their last three league wins have all been by 1-0 scorelines and that helps the strikers as it means they are not snatching at the chances that comes their way.
Winning the game so late in the day makes a big difference as well.
If you win the game with one of the last kicks of the match then barring something extraordinary, you know that you’re going to get the three points.
On the other hand, conceding in the last minute, as they did against Leeds, is an absolute gutter.
It can make it tough in the next game as well as that can be on your mind.
Football now is 90 plus minutes, and that means you have to concentrate for all of that time.
I think in the last few years you could say that Blackburn haven’t had that concentration all of the time and you have to be experienced and concentrate for the full 90 minutes.
The win kept the gap to safety at three points and you don’t want to be more than one result away.
You want to try and get on a run to first get out of the bottom three, it’s not about thinking about climbing four of five places in the league, it’s about trying to catch one team at a time.
They have a game in hand, but whether you’re at the top or the bottom, you’d rather have the points on the board because it only adds to the pressure on the other team.
