IT seems that lightening does strike twice. . . and for us it wasn’t in a good way.
If I was more cynical I’d be tempted to say that the big decisions are going against us.
At Arsenal on Saturday it looked like we’d snatched a point thanks to Andre Gray’s injury time penalty.
But referee Jon Moss and his assistant appeared to have other ideas and a couple of minutes later we were on the wrong end of an injury time penalty.
I’ve no problem with conceding late goals or even having penalties awarded against us.
What I do have a problem with is when those late goals are conceded through a penalty which shouldn’t have been given.
Ironically it was Laurent Koscielny again at the heart of the controversy.
Back in the fixture at the Turf it was the French international who bundled the ball home from both an offside position, with his arm and over the allotted injury time.
This time, Ben Mee was penalised for a high boot which brushed Koscielny’s head as he stooped for a header in, you’ve guessed it, an offside position.
A point was about what we deserved after a very good performance in which we matched Arsene Wenger’s side for shots on target and coped ably with the Gunners’ attacking force for most of the match.
I think Sean Dyche will be disappointed with the opening Arsenal goal, Shkodran Mustafi guiding a glancing header beyond Tom Heaton from a corner.
The fact we didn’t have anyone on the back post, where the ball went, was baffling and the defending against the German international also left a little to be desired.
Our cause was helped somewhat when Granit Xhaka was shown a red card for an awful challenge on Steven Defour.
We kept pushing for the equaliser and even when the clock ticked past 90 minutes I just felt we would get something.
When Ashley Barnes was caught by Francis Coquelin in the box, it was left to Gunners fan Gray to plant home a penalty and send the travelling fans into raptures.
Wenger by that point had followed Xhaka down the tunnel after a bit too much complaining but he had the last laugh as Alexis Sanchez dispatched his penalty with calm aplomb to hand the home side all three points.
It was hard look on the Clarets but I’m sure Dyche will use that injustice to push us to Premier League safety.
