CONSISTENCY will be Joe Scuderi's aim as he looks to take Ribblesdale Wanderers into the top half of the Senior League table this season.

The Church Meadow outfit find themselves 10th in the table after something of a stop-start season.

Wanderers have shown their qualities with victories over the likes of Clitheroe, but the club have been unable to string a series of wins together that would make them a real force in the Ribblesdale League.

But former Lancashire and Italy star Scuderi is hoping to instill a killer instinct into his charges as they aim to make winning into a welcome habit.

He said: "We're been very inconsistent this season and we just can't seem to string a few wins together.

"The league table probably reflects the standard of cricket we're playing. We've won four games this season but when we've lost, we've lost badly and not picked up any bonus points.

"With the way the points scoring is structured, if we could pick up a couple of points a game when we've lost, that would have made a lot of difference to us.

"It's been very frustrating because we've got some good players in the squad. We haven't progressed as far as we would have liked from last season.

"We have to smarten up and play smarter cricket."

And Scuderi said last Saturday's game against Baxenden was symptomatic of their season.

He added: "We were in a reasonable position at 100-2 and we ended up at 152-9, so we need show a bit more steel in all aspects of the game."

As for his own performances, Scuderi has been reasonably pleased with his contributions and reckons he's on target to hit his personal goals for the season.

With 346 runs at an average in the mid-80s and 10 wickets at an average of 16, Scuderi is leading his side well.

The Wanderers skipper added: "I'm reasonably happy with my own form. I missed three games because I was away playing with Italy, so I haven't been able to get the amount of runs I would have wanted, but I'm happy with the way I've played and my performances."

On the rest of the season, Scuderi is cautiously optimistic.

He added: "The table changes very quickly and if you can put two or three wins together, you can find yourself in the top half before you know it.

"That's what we need to do because you can get into a winning groove and that will breed confidence.

"Baxenden have shown what confidence can do so we need to play better cricket in all aspects on a regular basis."
