BLACKBURN Rovers fans were given the most value for money during last season, according to a survey.

Premiership clubs have been ranked according to the average cost of their season ticket, compared to how many goals they netted.

The likes of Manchester City, at £46.75 per successful strike, and Arsenal (£31.50) and West Ham (£30.10) were a poor investment, says financial website fool.co.uk.

But the price for a spot of Benni McCarthy magic, or a blast from David Bentley at Ewood Park, weighed in at just £11.25.

Rovers topped the table in the goals per pound league, narrowly pipping Manchester United (£14.25) and Wigan (£13.88), as they grabbed 31 times in front of their home support.

Rovers' performance was calculated on season ticket prices ranging from £299 to £399.

Hammers fans can pay up to £850 for a season ticket and Gunners supporters could pay out £1,825 for a luxury seat at the Emirates Stadium.

David Kuo, head of personal finance at Fool.co.uk said: "Football fans pay extortionate amounts to follow their team these days, far more than our European neighbours.

"This league exposes the real value fans are getting from their clubs."

Other northern clubs like Liverpool, Everton and Middlesbrough were a sound investment, while London outfits such as Fulham, Tottenham and Chelsea were also poorly ranked.
