IT’S advantage Burnley in the Lancashire League title race after a dramatic rain-affected weekend double header.

The Turf Moor men may not be top of the pile but they are within two points of leaders Ramsbottom with a game in hand.

Burnley were not in action yesterday due to their involvement in the LCB Knockout.

But they were involved in one of the two games to finish on Saturday as they beat Accrington by seven wickets at Turf Moor.

The 2015 champions capitalised as Ramsbottom’s game against Todmorden was abandoned.

Burnley won the toss and elected to field in a game that was reduced to 20 overs per side.

Once again the spin duo of captain Bharat Tripathi (6-15) and professional Chris Holt (3-47) did the damage as they restricted Accrington to 86-9.

In reply, the ever reliable Vishal Tripathi hit an unbeaten 41 as Burnley chased down Accrington’s target in 11.3 overs.

Ramsbottom went to the summit yesterday despite defeat at Accrington.

The home side were bowled out for 105 in 48 overs with Mike Haslam taking 4-33. But rain halted the reply and Ramsbottom were set 90 to win off 40 overs and came up five runs short.

Elsewhere yesterday, Church beat Lowerhouse by six wickets with Saeed Anwar unbeaten on 69 as they chased down the home side’s 131 all out.

Todmorden were also among the winners as they beat Colne by seven wickets. Colne made 157-7 but the hosts reached their target for the loss of just three wickets.

Bacup’s game with Enfield was abandoned.

Nelson’s game with East Lancs was hit by the weather after the home side posted 223-7. East Lancs were 101-8 when rain forced a premature finish.

In the other game to survive on Saturday Colne beat Rishton by seven wickets at the Horsfield.

Uzair Khalid took career best figures of 6-35 as Rishton were bowled out for 129 after being 65-0.

Lancashire’s Alviro Petersen, who stood in as sub professional for Colne, took 3-41 while Rishton professional Shaun Von Berg top scored with 42.

Petersen then hit an unbeaten 51, which included four sixes, as Colne got home with ease.
