STEVE Cotterill is poised to make Albanian international striker Besart Berisha his second signing of the summer.

Burnley last night refused to confirm or deny the move.

However, it is understood the final details are being ironed out as the player would need a work permit to play in England.

His German club, Hamburg, yesterday said a three-year deal for the 21-year-old had been agreed for a fee in the region of £350,000.

A statement on Hamburg's official club site said: "HSV's unwanted Albanian international striker Besart Berisha has found a new club.

"The 21-year-old has signed a three-year contract at the English Championship side Burnley.

"While at the AOL Arena, Berisha matured into a full international, and has been capped six times by his country."

Berisha, who was watched by Cotterill scoring against the England B team last month, claims he was convinced about a move to Turf Moor after discussions with the club's hierarchy.

He said: "I had a good feeling after the discussion with the head people of the club."

Berisha was born in Kosovo, but left the country as a child to escape the war when he moved to Germany.

And it is in Germany where he has played most of his football, starting off with youth teams Berliner VB69, BFC Dynamo, TSV Kichtenberg and Tennis Borussia Berlin, before signing for Bundesliga outfit Hamburg in 2004.

Due to his young age, however, he was loaned out to Aalborg Boldspilklu in the Danish championship where he scored 14 goals for the reserve team.

A further loan spell at AC Horsens saw him become the club's leading scorer with 11 goals during the 2005/06 season.

Despite signing a new four-year contract last summer, Berisha was restricted to just nine appearances for the German outfit, although that included a Champions League goal against CSKA Moscow.

The Albanian will become Cotterill's second signing after the capture of Hungarian goalkeeper Gabor Kiraly last month.
