GRAHAM Briggs raced to victory in the Colne Grand Prix as his JLT Condor team celebrated a one-two in the Elite Circuit Series finale in East Lancashire.
The race, watched by huge crowds in Colne town centre, saw a host of top domestic riders go up against each other and it was Briggs, who also won the race in 2014, who took the win.
It was an animated evening with several riders launching attacks throughout. A group of 12 did break clear but the race came back together with 11 laps remaining.
Alex Paton (Pedal Heaven) forged clear alone in the closing stages but he was unable to make his move stick as the entire Raleigh GAC team, protecting he position of series leader Sebastian Mora Vedri, reeled him back in.
But they left it late with Paton caught a lap from home meaning the race finished in a bunch sprint and it was Briggs who finished fastest to take the victory.
His JLT Condor team-mate Tom Moses crossed the line in second place with Madison Genesis’ Matt Cronshaw rounding out the podium. Mora Vedri did enough to take the overall series title.
