COLNE missed out on the chance to secure a league and cup double after being beaten 5-1 by Atherton Collieries in the final of the MEN United Cup at Fleetwood Town's Highbury stadium on Tuesday night.
The Reds secured the North West Counties League Premier Division title on Saturday but couldn't make it a double after suffering a heavy defeat to a Colls side who finished in third place.
Mark Battersby hit a hat-trick for the victors with Colne's sole strike an own goal on the stroke of half time.
Jordan Cover opened the scoring for Colls after just three minutes when he scored at the second attempt before Battersby got the first of his treble on 13 minutes when he rolled into an empty net after Cover had been denied.
Colne were second best all over the park but were handed a lifeline just before the interval when Colls keeper Simon Nangle's cross was deflected in.
But the Reds couldn't build on their lifeline and Ben Hardcastle made it three 11 minutes into the second half before Battersby sealed the result 15 minutes from time.
There was still time for the league's leading scorer to complete his hat-trick when he lobbed home from 25 yards.
Colne: Stuart Cross, Adam Stockdale (Ben Hoskin 63), Lee Pugh, Alex Coleman (Edward Williams 63), Dean Stott, Simon Nangle, Dominic Craig, Chris Anderson, Kenny Taylor (Tom Berwick 69), Danny Boyle, Michael Morrison.
