GOLDEN shot Katie Tasker netted a first-half hat-trick as Burnley FC Girls and Ladies Under-10s carried off the League Cup in some style against Academy Juniors of Bolton.
Tasker and Zaiba Ishaque, who also scored twice in the final at Burscough Football Club’s Victoria Ground, have shared a century of goals between them this season in the Under-10s campaign.
Burnley’s Under-10s coach Mick Preston said that he was delighted with his side’s efforts in lifting the cup.
He said: “I’m very proud of them, it was a terrific performance and a great effort.
“Katie and Zaiba both have a great eye for goal, they are super strikers, but the whole team has shown great commitment and this is a terrific reward for all of them.”
Preston, who led the Under-9s to a league and cup double last season, added: “A lot of the girls from that squad are still with us and it is great to see them achieve more success this season.
“We lost our first game of the season to Preston North End 8-1, but since then the girls have improved every game.
“It is a great credit to them because they all work so hard and they love their football.”
Burnley will be keen to defend their crown next season and Preston hopes his side can challenge for the league title in the closing weeks of the campaign and then build on the cup success for next season when he hopes to see his side chasing more silverware.
He added: “We’ll definitely be the team to beat next year and that will be another challenge for us.
“We are still in with a chance of winning the league, depending on other results, so hopefully we’ll have another title to celebrate this season.”
