NEIGHBOURS Nelson and AFC Darwen shared the spoils in a North West Counties Premier League 0-0 draw last night.
It was a game of few chances not helped by the cold and wet conditions and in the end neither side could find a breakthrough.
Both sides began the night in the bottom six in the table with just a point separating them.
Nelson entered the match without a win in six games while Darwen had won just once in their last five outings so a close, cagey affair was always likely.
The first half was a tight contest with neither side creating too many clear-cut chances.
Darwen’s best chance came on the half hour when Paul Coote shot just wide while at the other end Ryan Charnes went close for the home side.
And there was little goalmouth action after the interval,
Both sides mustered half chances but neither could find the all important opener as the game petered out into a stalemate.
The result lifts Nelson above Padiham into 16th on goal difference while Darwen remain 19th ahead of today’s fixtures which see the Storks and Barnoldswick Town in action. Colne face Atherton Collieries on Monday.
Nelson return to action at home to Alsager Town in the league on Saturday while AFC Darwen are on the road at West Didsbury & Chorlton next weekend.
