BLACKBURN Rovers teenager Lewis Hardcastle produced a superb performance as non-league Salford City pulled off an FA Cup giant-killing tonight.
The Evo-Stik League Premier Division outfit beat League Two Notts County 2-0 at their Moor Lane home thanks to second-half goals from former Accrington Stanley striker Danny Webber and ex-Nelson attacker Richie Allen.
Midfielder Hardcastle, who is on a youth loan at Salford, twice went close to scoring in the first half.
But it was from his pass that James Poole crossed for Webber to break the deadlock less than a minute after the restart.
And the hosts, who are managed by former Ramsbottom United bosses Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley, sealed their place in the second round in the 73rd minute after substitute Allen scored a sublime individual effort.
Hardcastle, 17, received a standing ovation from the sell-out 1,400 crowd, which included three of Salford’s owners, former Manchester United stars Gary Neville, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt, when he was substituted in injury-time.
