ANDRE Gray says he is embracing his pricetag as Burnley’s record signing and is taking confidence from it.

The striker doubled the Clarets’ top transfer fee when he made a £6million move from Brentford in August.

Some outlets incorrectly reported that Burnley paid as much as £9million for the 24-year-old, and numerous Championship managers have since used that figure to comment on how much the club has spent this summer.

Gray insists, though, that he is not fazed by the fee.

“As much as the price to buy me might have seemed a lot, that’s given me confidence,” he said. For the whole club to believe in me that much to pay that amount of money, it’s only helped me.”

Asked what it felt like to hear the managers of rivals teams discussing how much he cost, he added: “It makes me feel proud. Managers are going to say that. I’m sure if they could pay money for certain players, they would.

“If they don’t want to do that, they don’t want to do that – it’s their loss at the end of the day.

“Hopefully, I’m trying to repay it for Burnley so that it can be their gain.”

Gray has certainly made a good start to his Clarets career, with six goals from nine games, including four in his last two home games.

He feels his form is a reflection of how the team as a whole is clicking.

“We’ve got a great understanding now,” he said.

“Joey [Barton] has come in and I’ve come in, and I think we know our roles now and we know what’s best for each other, and I think you’re seeing that with mine and Vokesy’s partnership now.

“We know where each other is going to be and we know what we expect from each other.”
