OLYMPIC champion Steven Burke will be among those going for gold at the National Track Championships in Manchester this weekend.
The Colne star is set to compete in the points race, individual pursuit, kilo TT and the scratch race on a busy weekend for the Team Wiggins rider.
Burke will face off against Bradley Wiggins in the individual pursuit with the 2012 Tour de France champion down on the start list for the event along with defending champion Andy Tennant in what promises to be a high quality race.
The 27-year-old Burke took the national individual pursuit championship in 2008 and 2011 while he has also previously been scratch race champion and the kilo winner during his stellar track career.
Pendle’s Martin Woffindin is also slated to start the points race at the national championships in the colours of Team Moda-Anon. The East Lancashire ace is also down to ride the scratch race.
The event gets underway on Friday morning with the individual pursuit qualification. The final of that event is on Friday night while the team pursuit takes place on Sunday.
Othe British stars set to compete include Jason kenny, Matt Crampton and Philip Hindes, Laura Trott headlines the women’s field with the Olympic champion set to ride the team sprint along with Shanaze Read.
Jess Varnish, Rachel and Becky James and Vicky Williamson will also be competing in a high quality national field.
The championships also include a packed para-cycling programme with a host of British stars set to compete including Jody Cundy and Sophie Thornhill.
