BILLY Kee, 24, is hoping to take the team’s, and his own, frustrations out on Bury in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tonight.

The striker has largely been limited to substitute appearances for Accrington Stanley so far this season, following his summer return.

Kee was in the starting line-up for the Reds’ only win to date, at home to Mansfield two weeks ago.

He returned to the bench for the next game, at Notts County, where they earned a late 1-1.

It proved to be a good point at Meadow Lane. A follow-up 1-1 draw at home to Northampton on Saturday was perceived as two points dropped by Stanley, despite having to come back from behind to draw.

“I think it shows how far we’ve come as a team when we’re competing with Northampton and got something out of the game and could have won it, and we’re disappointed that we didn’t,” said Kee, who returned for his second spell at the club in the summer.

“We’re not achieving what we’re capable of at the minute and there is a lot more to come. We all know that.

“We’ve started sloppy in the last two games and we can’t be doing that.

“We’re not down though, we just want to do so well together.”

If Kee is given the opportunity tonight, with manager John Coleman expected to make a handful of changes to his side, he is determined to reinforce what he can bring to the side.

“It’s harder because Terry (Gornell) is our captain and me and Terry are very alike in some ways and play a similar game,” he said.

“If I’m not in the manager’s thoughts I’m doing something wrong. But it is a carrot and it’s the next way to get off the mark.

“I haven’t scored yet and it’s an extra game to show what you can and hopefully score goals.

“But we just want to do well as a team. It’s not about me, it’s about all of us and sometimes the bench can be a big influence on the people who have started.”

Former Burton striker Kee said: “We played Bury in pre-season and they were by far one of the best teams we’ve played.

“They’re going to come at us and I think that’s going to do us a lot of favours because it’s not going to be a nothing game.

“It’s not going to fizzle out. We’re going to have to really go for it.”
