MARK Kelsall made home advantage count as he landed Pleasington Golf Club’s Junior Open title.
The Pleasington member battled torrid conditions to shoot a nett score of 66, and while three others matched that total Kelsall took the title after a count back.
Rossendale Golf Club’s Luke Bartram finished in second, with Gathurst member Mathew Lynch home in third.
Daniel Croft, from Huyton and Prescott Golf Club, won the gross competition with the lowest round of the day, with the two-handicapper shooting a fine 68 in difficult weather, while Adam Cook, a member of the same club, went round in 72.
The day had started brightly, with the sun shining in the morning, but the conditions changed almost as soon as the first of 59 competitors in the field stepped on to the tee.
In the red tee competition for players with a handicap of 29 or more, Greenmount’s Joe Irving came in with a nett score of 71 to take the trophy.
All prize winners have now been notified by Pleasington and vouchers left in the pro shop for the winners.
It’s competition time again at Pleasington next weekend as the Open Mixed Team event takes place on Sunday, August 30.
The event sees teams of four compete with a handicap limit of 20 for the men and 30 for the women.
The competition has received a boost with news that the Seafood Pub Company has agreed a deal to sponsor what is one of Pleasington’s biggest events of the season.
The Lancashire-based restaurant chain will provide a number of the prizes on the day as part of the agreement.
As well as the Oyster and Otter in Feniscowles, the Seafood Pub Company also own the Assheton Arms in Downham and the Barley Mow in Pendle, as well as several other locations across the county.
Pleasington manager Ryan O’Connor is delighted with the deal and believes it will add extra spice to what is always a competitive occasion.
He said: “We are pleased to be working with such a well-known local business.
“The Open Mixed is always very popular and having the Seafood Pub Company on board adds a little something extra to the event.”
Limited tee-times are still available for the competition and can be booked by visiting: www.pleasington-golf.co.uk.
