MICHAEL Brown insists Burnley are not finished yet as he targets Lancashire League glory following their historic Worsley Cup triumph over Nelson.

The Turf Moor men secured a third straight win in the prestigious cup competition becoming the first team in history to accomplish that feat and in the process completed the third leg of a possible quadruple.

And Brown now wants his side to go on and claim the league title with Burnley currently 17 points clear at the top of the table.

“We’ve just got to keep doing what we are doing in the league,” said Brown. “We have still got to play Lowerhouse and there is still plenty of cricket to be played.

“I think the cup win has lifted a bit of pressure off us as they are all one off matches and we have beaten four good teams to win it this year.

“We have created some breathing space in the league which is nice but we just have to keep winning starting at Accrington on Saturday.”

Sunday’s cup success was built on an opening stand of 90 between professional Chris Holt and Vishal Tripathi before Holt took 5-7 from six overs with the ball to run through the Nelson tail after Burnley’s seamers had reduced the home side to 73-4.

“It was a great performance from us in the final,” said club chairman Brown who made five in Burnley’s 206 all out before they dismissed hosts Nelson for just 88 to complete a 118-run victory.

“It was a good toss to win but we still had to go out there and put a target on the board and the opening partnership was key for us.

“We batted well and although we had a bit of blip towards the end we still managed to scramble past 200.

“We knew that was a good score and we needed a couple of early wickets, which we got, and then we needed to get their pro out which was the key wicket for us.

“It is a great achievement for the club and we know we have made a bit of history.”
