IN-FORM Enfield have been proving doubters wrong all season and wicketkeeper Liam Bedford believes that can continue when they host Burnley in the semi-finals of the Lancashire League Twenty20 competition tonight.

Few would have predicted Enfield reaching the last four and sitting third in the league at this stage of the season, especially given a slow start which saw them lose three of their first four league matches, but Bedford insists his side always believed they would come good.

And he insists they are not stopping now.

“We have no fear,” said Bedford, whose side travel to Ramsbottom for a big league clash on Sunday.

“We are a young side and we are full of confidence.

“We have reached the semi-finals playing good cricket and now we all want to win it.”

It will be no easy task to overcome Lancashire League leaders Burnley though but Bedford believes his form side can book a place in next week’s final.

He added: “Burnley are a good side and they have got plenty of players who have played or still are playing on the county circuit but we think we can beat them.

“We are on a great run and know that we are capable of getting through to the final.”

The Enfield ace insists there is no secret to his side’s winning formula – they lost just once on their way to qualifying for the last four as Blond Witch Group winners. In contrast Burnley finished second in their group.

“We are a very positive side,” added Bedford.

“We try to play an aggressive brand of cricket anyway and we have taken that into the T20. I think the key to our success has been the bowling unit. They have been superb and it gives us a real chance in every game.

“Then you have players like Adam Bracewell who has been in brilliant form all season with the bat and it just inspires the rest of the squad.”

Enfield have not won a major competition since they triumphed in the short format eight years ago and Bedford is desperate to see his side’s name etched on the trophy again this season.

“We are a really tight-knit squad and winning the competition would be great anyway but winning it with 10 really good mates would be even better,” he said.

“We believe we can do it.

“It would be amazing to win it. I think we won it in 2007 but I was playing in the second team then and it would be huge for me to part of a winning team.”

Tonight’s last four clash at Dill Hall Lane is a 6.15pm start with Paddy Brown and Brian Davies the two umpires.
