TOMMI Meadows is now up to second in the Junior 1000 Rally Championship after finishing fifth on last weekend’s round at Caerwent in South Wales.
The 15-year-old Bowland High School pupil carried his consistent pace from the previous round, where they took second overall, into the event, which is notorious for being a ‘car breaker’ due to the unforgiving kerbs.

The pair were sitting comfortably, just outside the top five, after the first three stages, however, Meadows was just happy to still be in the event after a scare on stage one.
“The first stage was going well, although I was very wary of the kerbs. Three miles from the end we ran slightly wide on a tight hairpin left and smacked a kerb with the front right corner. We were very lucky to get away with nothing but a cracked wheel,” he explained.
The second half of the rally saw a big push from the crew be rewarded with a step up to take fifth overall in the event, allowing Meadows to conserve his second overall position in the championship, of 23 registered competitors.
“I am just glad that we managed to finish this event,” said Meadows.
“A top five is a good result in an underpowered car, but the best thing is that there is minimal damage to repair before the next rally in Scotland in August.”
He added: “I’d like to thank all of my sponsors for their support, it really is appreciated and helps a lot. I am currently building a new car for the national forest rally championship when I turn 17,.
