BURNLEY professional Chris Holt believes his side could be on the verge of something special as they prepare to get their Moorhouses 20/20 campaign under way tonight.

Holt took 5-27 as the Lancashire League leaders opened up a 12-point gap at the top of the table with a thrashing of nearest rivals Lowerhouse on Sunday.

And, with Burnley still in the Worsley Cup, a competition they have won in the previous two seasons, and the Lancashire Cricket Board (LCB) Knockout, former Padiham man Holt is only too aware of a possible unprecedented quadruple.

“A couple of the lads have mentioned that,” said Holt.

“It is still very early days.

“But we have such a good squad of players that I don’t see why we can’t do well in every competition we enter.

“Burnley have always prioritised the Worsley Cup and we will do that again. It is a massive competition and is very important to us.

“We also want to do well in the league. That is a test over a whole season and there can be no arguments about it if you win that. If you are top of the league at the end of the season then you deserve to be there.”

Burnley’s lead at the top of the table is 12 points while they have a Worsley Cup last eight clash with Ramsbottom on June 20, a week after their LCB Knockout tie at home to Thornton Cleverleys on June 14.

Burnley are in the Pride of Pendle Group in the 20/20 alongside all four of last season’s semi-finalists, and Holt admits he is not sure how they will cope when they visit Nelson tonight.

“I am not sure how we will get on in it to be honest,” Holt added.

“It is a bit of fun and perhaps a chance for us to play a few youngsters but I don’t see why we can’t do well in it.”

The shorter format clash comes just 36 hours before the two sides meet once again in the league with Burnley aiming to consolidate their advantage at the top of the table following their exploits last week.

“It was a great performance,” Holt said of their 100-run victory over defending champions Lowerhouse.

“We batted well with Dave Brown showing his class with a great 93 not out.

“Cole Hayman then got us off to a great start with the ball and in the end I had an easy time of it.

“The lads had done all the hard work by the time I took a few wickets.

“We always thought 170 was going to be enough. We said that we needed to take a couple of key Lowerhouse wickets and once I got their captain Charlie Cottam out I thought we would go on and win it.”
