IAN Wilkinson is not the only local rider to cheer on in the Chorley Grand Prix this weekend.
Here the Lancashire Telegraph takes a look at five other East Lancashire stars to keep your eye on:
- Steven Burke (Team Wiggins) KNOWN more as a track rider the London 2012 team pursuit gold medallist is slated to ride in Team Wiggins’ first outing on these shores. The Colne ace will most likely be a supporting rider for his squad, which has only six riders, where his track engine can be put to good use.
- Brad Morgan (Raleigh GAC) THE Chorley man will certainly have the crowd support on home soil. Racing in what looks to be one of the stronger squads on paper Morgan will be keen to follow up an impressive start to the season which already includes a second place finish in the Pimbo last month.
Another who may have to play a team role.
- Sam Boast (Wheelbase Altura) THE talented Colne man has big aspirations and will be keen to show his credentials this weekend.
The course is to his liking and he could spring a surprise or two given the support of his team who have a squad of seven. A breakaway represents his best chance.
- Simon Wilson (Polypipe Cycling) THE Padiham man has a new team this season having switched from Wheelbase and has the tactical nous and awareness to present problems for the bigger teams. Upset the big boys with victory in last year’s Clayton Spring Classic.
- Martin Woffindin (Cycle Sport Pendle) THE lone rider for the Pendle squad, Woffindin will have to find his own way into the action. But the Burnley star is an experienced rider and has proved he can mix it with the best on the track in recent times having competed in the national championships and the Revolution series.
